Green & Gold Shimmery Playdough

Recipe:

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
3 small packages of Kool Aid drink mix (Lemon-lime)
3 TBSP oil
2 cups boiling water

Lots of gold glitter

Mix together flour, salt, Kool Aid, glitter, and oil.

Add boiling water and mix until the dough is cool enough to touch. (I cooked on low heat until I got the right consistency.)

Knead until smooth.

Store in a Ziploc bag in the fridge!

Valentines Play Dough Mats

Now that you have made your chocolate play dough you can use it with these play dough mats.

These are counting mats (1-10), but you can use the idea to fit your class and your student's needs.
These are a great addition to your math centers.

Chocolate Playdough

Want a fun Valentines treat for your students. Make chocolate playdough and use it in your centers. They will LOVE you for it! And it smells DIVINE!!

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

½ cup dark cocoa powder

½ cup salt

1 Tbsp cream of tartar

1 Tbsp cooking oil

1 cup water

Directions:

1. Combine all dry ingredients, except cream of tartar. Mix well

2. Add water, cooking oil and cream of tartar.

3. Stir over medium-low heat. Continue stirring until mixture takes the consistency of dough.

4. Remove and place on dry surface.

5. Knead well until dough is smooth and consistent.

Snow Dough

I have 2 AMAZING recipes for Snow Dough.

Recipe 1: Snow Dough
2 cups cornstarch
1/3 to 1/2 vegetable oil or baby oil
3 - 4 Tbsp of silver glitter

Mix ingredients until combined. It should feel smooth, slightly damp, and mold easily.

Recipe 2: Snow Playdough

2 cups cornstarch

1 cup salt

1 1/2 boiling water

2 Tbsp cream of tartar

2 Tbsp vegetable oil

silver glitter

Mix all ingredients until well combined.

What they are learning as they play:

Sensory: exploring through sensory investigation, learning new descriptive language

Literacy: story telling, vocabulary development

Science/ Knowledge & Understanding of the World: combining materials, recipes, geography and habitats

Creativity: imaginative play, forming sculptures

Maths: counting out measurements

Halloween Playdough

Halloween Play Dough
Make 2 types of play dough for Halloween: black with lots of purple glitter and orange.  Use the basic play dough recipe from the September 15th post - excluding the spices). For brighter colors, add Wilton gels, instead of food coloring. (Be careful when making the black. Your hands will be stained a purplish/reddish color). Add  purple glitter to the black play dough and then add some pipe cleaners and wiggly eyes for spiders. Put out some Halloween cookie cutters with black beans for Jack O' Lanterns. Students can write a sentence or story about their Halloween creations. 

This make & take activity is sure to be a treat not a trick!

Apple Pie Playdough

As fall approaches I always begin thinking of apples - apple picking, apple pies, and apple pie playdough. Playdough is a great sensory material for teaching many skills in all grades.

 Apple Pie Playdough

 Ingredients:

• 1 cup flour
• ¼ cup salt
• ½ Tbsp. vegetable oil
• 1 tsp. cream of tartar
• ½ tsp. nutmeg
• 1 tsp. cinnamon
• 1 tsp. red food color
• 1 cup water

Instructions:

1. In a large pot, combine all dry ingredients and mix well.
2. Add in vegetable oil, food color, and water, stir.
3. Cook over medium heat until the dough pulls away from pot and starts to become dry.
4. Turn off heat, let cool, and knead.

Notes

If the dough feels too sticky, knead in a tablespoon of flour.
